Our History

‘Bobby’ Hill was born and raised in the small southern New Jersey town of Borderntown. He came from a hard working family with strong community values. His mother worked for the State of New Jersey while raising 3 children, until she started to loose her eyesight in 1975. His father, Robert Q. Hill, worked at the local factory and served as the Borderntown Fire Chief for many years. This strong work ethic was passed onto Bobby, and at age 14, Bobby started spending time at his aunt & uncle’s flooring store in the downtown village. When not playing basketball in the school yard, he was working for his Aunt Alice at Hill’s Floor Covering, learning all about the industry.

In his early twenties, he met his now wife, Virginia, of 36 years, not far from Bordentown where she was teaching kindergarten. They both had a love for music and began performing together in local establishments. It wasn’t long after that they were married and decided to set roots near Virginia’s family in Westchester, NY. Although Bobby’s dream was to open a music store, with baby number one on the way, Bobby turned to what he knew how to do to make a living for his new family- floor covering. Relying on everything he learned from Hill’s Floor Covering, in 1979 Art Linoleum & Carpet, Inc. opened it’s doors focusing on customer service and expert installation.

In 2010, Art Linoleum & Carpet began doing business as Art Flooring Center. This change was implemented because our name no longer accurately reflected the wide variety of flooring services we offered, in addition to simply carpet and linoleum.

Over the years, many family members have worked in the showroom making it a truly family owned and operated business, just like Hill’s floor Covering was all those years ago.

Over the decades, flooring materials have changed, installation techniques have evolved and the flooring options are endless. The one thing that hasn’t changed is Art Flooring’s commitment to quality customer service and expert installation.
